Welcome to the website of Melksham Scout Group. We provide a programme of “everyday adventure” for over 70 young people in Melksham on a weekly basis.

Everything the group does relies on volunteers. Whether its leading section meetings, running camps, looking after the hall or raising money, our friendly and active volunteer team are always looking for extra help! Find out how you can get involved!

As a group, we also aim to be at the heart of the community in Melksham. With our hall  being available for use by the wider community, the Group is also keen to get involved in community events locally.

AGM and Work day at Jubilee Wood

MELKSHAM SCOUT GROUP AGM and BBQ

When: Saturday, 6th May

Where: Jubilee Wood, just off the A350, near Steeple Ashton

The AGM coincides with Melksham Scout Group’s ‘turn’ to help out at the District Camp Site. This site is dedicated for the use of local area Scout and Guide groups and has been slowly transformed from a muddy, farmer’s field, into a tree-screened venue, with washing and cooking facilities, as well as more fun stuff, such as a BMX track and obstacle course. There is still plenty to do, so if you are able to help out, even if only for an hour or two, please do come along (with some old clothes).

Work, a bluebell walk, and a chance for the kids to try out the obstacle course will take place between 10am and 4pm, with a break for a free BBQ lunch and the AGM in the middle. Do come along, see what the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts have been up to this past year and enjoy a burger.

Claire Neal receives – Award for Merit

Christine Broom (left) presents the Award of Merit to Claire Neal.

Melksham’s Scout leader was given the Award for Merit last month for her years of ‘outstanding service’ to the Scout and Beaver groups in the town.

Claire Neal, Group Scout Leader and Beaver Leader in Melksham, was given the award, formerly known as the Medal of Merit, by district commissioner Christine Broom.

Christine said, “Claire has guided the Melksham Scout Group over many years currently as the Group Scout Leader and as the Beaver Scout Leader.

“Group and Colony numbers have always remained healthy which is testament to the quality of the programme and the continuous hard work Claire has put into running it.

“Claire’s contribution to Scouting in Melksham has been invaluable; without her dedication and commitment over the years there would not have been a Beaver Colony to feed the Cub Pack.

“Claire has always supported the group, district and county fully, whether at district events, St George’s Day celebrations or the many other ways her Colony interacts with themselves and the rest of the movement.

“Claire is also badge secretary for the Wiltshire West District – a job that she undertakes with her relentless dedication, commitment and capability.”

Christmas Post – Summary 2016

This year we raised £596.22 with the Christmas Post, and delivered 2429 cards

This was 129 cards down on last year, but only £8.45 less money (with the card difference it should have been £25.80 short) so that was very good.

Thank you to all who helped and delivered .

Have a great Christmas and New Year

Claire (Group Scout Leader)
